Who will win the AL East?

The Yankees are coming together brilliantly in 2009. They are playing great defense, have better team chemistry, and are firing on all cylinders. Teixeira is leading the league in HR, Arod is back, and they are getting good SP on a consistent basis.

Boston’s playing right along with the Yankees despite Ortiz being a bum, and the rotation posting a Oriole-esque ERA. The Red Sox and Yanks square off this week, and despite hating both teams, I can’t NOT watch! It’s a disease. Look for some fireworks as the Red Sox are unbeaten vs. the Yankees this year.

The Rays haven’t done anything particularly well this year but remain .500, which is only 5 games out of first place in the East. So when things start to click for them, look for them to put together a massive win streak as their young pitchers and bats come to life. You think Shields, Garza and Price won’t come around? The Rays also look to get a healthy Kazmir, Burrell, Percival, and Bartlett back. Wow! I’m sticking with a healthy Rays team to win the East. However, a big IF they get healthy.

The Jays came back to earth and the O’s are still in orbit looking for a planet with a salary cap in place where we can send a pitching machine to the mound instead of our rotation.

But enough about what we think, what do you Jack of All Sports fans think will happen in the AL East race this year? We hope you are not all Orioles fans, so build your cases for your beloved Red Sox and Yankees.

  1. You didn’t even list the O’s as an option in your poll?!?!? As much as I hate them, the Yankees are going to win the East.

  2. The Yankees have a lot of great spite storylines. I think they are going to be rock steady the rest of the year and will win 100 games and go to the World Series. Do you think Teixiera regrets his decision to play for the Yankees? Give me a break. For local fans and Gael fans in particular, you have to be psyched watching him win and play well for such an historic franchise. Go Tex.
I like Tampa to come back and win the wildcard. I am totally flip flopping from my stance last Sunday.
