Baltimore’s favorite Raven’s Fan – Pat Cary
1. Favorite Baltimore sports memory – Watching (from my dorm room in Radford, VA) the 2000 Ravens Defense being announced at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, FL. Rob Burnett, Sam Adams, Tony “Goose” Siragusa, Michael McCrary, Peter Boulware, Ray Lewis, Jamie Sharper, Duane Starks, Chris McAlister, Kim Herring, and Rod Woodson. 1 Hall of Famer, 1 future Hall of Famer and Ravens’ ROH member, 2 current Ravens’ Ring of Honor Members…The greatest defense ever!

1a. Favorite non-Baltimore sports memory
When Daniel LaRusso upset Johnny Lawrence with an unexpected crane kick to win the All Valley Under 19 Karate Championship.

2. Greatest athletic accomplishment
It’s a toss-up between the JV football game against Episcopal HS (VA) where I registered 3 sacks and a tipped pass and the Varsity game against Landon where I fielded an onsides kick in the air (first and only time I touched the ball in a real game…well besides that magical tipped pass) and returned it 2 yards before I was tackled by the entire Landon kickoff team.

3. Favorite athletes of all time
Ed Reed – I don’t think there’s a need for any further explanation. I also really liked Bruce Smith before the Ravens came to Baltimore.

4. Favorite teams of all time
Considering the Orioles haven’t made the playoffs since my Freshman year of high school and haven’t won the World Series since I was a year old, I can’t hearken back to the great O’s teams of yester year. I’ll have to go cookie cutter on this one and say the 2000 Ravens however; I will give honorable mention to the ’08 Raven. I know it was just last year, but the 2008 team provided me with more enjoyable Sundays than any other Ravens team in recent memory.

5. Favorite sports venue you’ve visited
Fenway Park was old and leaky, but the history and atmosphere was unbelievable. I had a great time despite being surrounded by Red Sox “Nation” and their cloud of arrogance and terrible accents.

6. Song you would enter to octagon to
“Do You Really Want to Hurt Me” by Culture Club

7. Favorite Hollywood actress
Elizabeth Shue, no question.

1. Favorite Baltimore sports memory
Definitely the first time I went to see the O’s play at Memorial stadium. That was 1988, when they started 0-21 and were in perpetual last place. The O’s played the Yankees, who were wire-to-wire division leaders that year. I remember two kids from my little league team came too, and the game wound up going 17 innings (at the time the longest regular season game in O’s history). Cal eventually broke the deadlock by driving in the winning runs with a walk-off double.

1a. Favorite non-Baltimore sports memory
Going to Madrid to watch “El Classico” between Real Madrid & Barcelona, staying in a shady hostel in downtown Madrid; buying scalped tickets to the game, and watching Ronaldinho & Barcelona carve up Real Madrid in front of their own fans at the Santiago Bernabeau. Plane Ticket to Madrid: $636.00 Three nights at the shady hostel: $107.00. Scalped ticket(s) to the biggest game in Spain: $324.00. Watching Real Madrid’s fans stand up to applaud their arch-rivals performance: Priceless.

2. Greatest athletic accomplishment
Scoring five goals in a game for my club team, Les Cadets, my senior year with SYA in France. We trailed 2-0 and 3-1, but I was ultimately just faster than the guy marking me, and I found a way into space for four goals in the second half alone. I would also add getting my blue belt in Karate.

3. Favorite athletes of all time
Ronaldinho, Kazushi Sakuraba, Royce Gracie, Zinedine Zidane.

4. Favorite teams of all time
WASHINGTON REDSKINS, Northwestern Wildcats, US Men’s National Soccer.

5. Favorite sports venue you’ve visited
By far and away, the Olympic Stadium in Rome. It simmers like a caldron until kick-off, and then boils over with frenzy for 90 minutes. The atmosphere around the stadium is mythical, in part because they get away with flying flags, using smoke-bombs, and jumping up & down singing & chanting the whole time. An experience for the well-equiped no doubt.

6. Song you would enter to octagon to
Theme Song for the movie SAW.

7. Favorite Hollywood actress
Keira Knightly.

1. Favorite Baltimore Sports memory:

There are a few that stand out right away. Watching Ray Lewis and the 2000 Ravens bring the Lombardi Trophy back to its rightful home. Maryland Basketballs back to final fours, with the second one culminating in a National title. Drew Nicholas’ game winner in the first round of the 2003 NCAA Tourney against UNC Wilmington and Greivis Vasquez’s triple double against North Carolina in 2009. Any Oriole game where the yard is full of O’s fans is also a good memory.

1a. Favorite non Baltimore Sports memory:

Anytime Duke basketball, the Yankees, Red Sox and Steelers all lose. Although I was not alive for it, seeing highlights and documentaries about the Miracle on Ice gives me chills. It is the greatest American sports accomplishment ever.

2.Greatest Athletic achievement:

Being part of the John Carroll soccer team that defeated #2 Calvert Hall and #3 Curley in back to back games my senior year. Being part of two national indoor soccer championship teams. Giving the Delta Sigma Phi 4×100 team a lead that we would never relinquish in Greek Olympics 2003.  Knowing 80 percent of the division one college hoops mascots and where NFL and NBA players went to college. It always seems to wow people.

3. Favorite Athletes of All Time:

Juan Dixon, Cal Ripken Jr., Sean Mosley, Ray Lewis, Jamal Lewis, Jermaine Lewis, Steve Francis, Lonny Baxter, Ed Reed, Adam Jones….. and all though I am too young to have seen them play, Len Bias, Johnny Unitas and Brooks Robinson, simply the greatest.

4. Favorite teams of All-Time:

2001-2002 Maryland Terrapins National Championship team, 2000 Baltimore Ravens, 2000-2001 Maryland Terrapins Final Four team, the Baltimore Orioles as a whole….. I know it has been a rough decade plus,  but the Orioles always will be one of my favorite teams.

5. Favorite Sports Venue you have visited:

I have never really been anywhere of consequence outside of Baltimore, but going to Lake Placid and seeing every place the 1980 Olympics took place was pretty cool. Visiting Memorial Stadium, Camden Yards and M&T Bank Stadium. Everytime I walk into Cole Field House or the Comcast Center still gives me chills.

6. Song you would enter the octagon to:

“Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor

7. Favorite Hollywood Actress:

It’s a tie between Jessica Alba and Megan Fox, for obvious reasons.
